2. When you initially install the program, you will see a Connect to: field.  Enter the following in the field: vpn.umd.edu

3. Click Connect. The three UMD profiles will populate in the Group field.

4. You will have a choice to connect to one of three separate UMD profiles from the drop-down menu:

• UMapps: connection to mainframe systems behind the UMD firewall (i.e. MVS)

• UMD: connection to UMD resources and Internet while using a wired connection

• UMD-Wireless: The UMD-Wireless profile was historically used to optionally encrypt wifi traffic back when 40bit WEP was the only option for wifi security. With the advent of WPA2 this profile is in the process of being removed and should be used only if specifically told to.

5. Once you click Connect, the VPN Client will search for any updates and automatically install them.  This may take several minutes, after which the connection will be established and the client will minimize.

6. The first time you use the client, confirm that it is working properly by activating the VPN client and visiting the following web page:

http://noc.net.umd.edu/cgi-bin/netmgr/whoami

If the VPN client is working properly, this web page will tell you that you are using an IP address in the format xxx.x.xxx.xxx (where "xxx" is any number).
